Can you believe its August already?

Spring seems to have flown by, and we are well into summer. The children are now in full holiday mode, and you're probably trying to find plenty of things to keep them entertained.

Days can merge into one another during the summer holidays, and the children can sometimes want something different to do. Don't forget that if you visit www.stockport.gov.uk/events, enter the date(s) you're looking for, and it will bring up a whole range of local events and activities. Remember to check back regularly, as new events can be added at any time.

Special free and low-cost events in August

9th – Totally Stockport Krazy Races: A family-friendly soapbox derby event.

15th – Saturday Snackdown: Superhero Saturday: A fun, free day for children and families, held at Stockport Market.

17th – Dilly's Duck Day, 11.30am–2.30pm, Brabyns Park, Marple: A fun, family-friendly nature-themed event. Families can pay £3 to decorate their own numbered duck.

20th – Amoeba Photography Group, Stockroom, Merseyway, 5–7pm: If you or your children love photography, or would simply like to learn more, why not give it a try?

Weekly events

Monday, 11.30am–1.30pm – Games Day at Marple United Reformed Church: A warm, safe space for all ages, with lots of games available.

Tuesday, 4.15pm – Community Sensory Garden, Hazel Grove: Hands-on creative sessions where you can plant, prune, craft or upcycle. There's always something new to enjoy.

Wednesday, 5–6.30pm – Breakdance Classes at 64 Princes Street, Stockport: Join Fresh Skillz CIC's weekly breakdance classes for children and young people aged 8–16 (£10).

Thursday, 5pm – Youth Night at Stockroom: A safe, welcoming space where young people can relax, socialise and take part in activities.

Friday, 4–6pm – Dungeon Crawlers at Stockroom: A fantasy role-playing club for children aged 7–11.

Looking to burn off some of your own energy? Why not give Dancersize! a try? fun and energetic dance fitness class held at the New Bairstow Centre (£3).

Andy's Man Club meets every Monday, offering a friendly, non-judgemental space where men aged 18 and over can get together for a chat and support one another.

Back to School Without the Stress

Rather than leaving everything until the final weekend of the holidays, check what you already have and reuse what you can—you don't need to buy everything new every year.

• Uniform For All is a year-round scheme run with The Cherry Tree Project, providing quality pre-loved school uniforms for children attending Stockport schools.
• Keep an eye out for the popular 50p Uniform Shop in Merseyway. Previous events have helped hundreds of local families, with every item costing just 50p.
• Ask your child's school whether they run a uniform exchange.
• Check local social media groups for nearby school uniform swap events.
• Look out for supermarket offers. During August, many stores have discounts on stationery, school bags and other back-to-school essentials.
